The symbolic act, a sign of mourning for all the femicides committed until today, can also be performed by women who are subjected to abuse within the confines of the home. SERBIA

Organization: MIR2 Programme/UNDP: Regional Task Force for Gender

Event Description: A Regional Task Force for Gender meeting will be held on Nov 28th in Vladicin Han, South Serbia. The RTF/Gender group consists of about 50 representatives of local self governments, NGOs and media from 13 municipalities of South Serbia. The aim of the meeting is support to MDG 2, task 3 in Serbia: by the end of 2008 finalize the system pre-conditions for gender equality/setting up and empowerment of institutional mechanisms. The main topic of the meeting will be Women and Education/What can be done at local level? Follow up activities in municipalites will promote:

"16 days" campaign
Lobbying for setting up gender focal points of committees in the muncipalities
"One project per municipality"- in gender related activity to be submitted to donors through the Center for the Development of Jablanica and Pcinja District.
