DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

Description: More than 300 women of Goma met with men (husbands, brothers, sons, etc.) for a day to encourage an end to violence against women and an end to armed combat. Out of the meeting, a committee of 15 women was established to reach out to armed groups, the CNDP, the government, and the Maï Maï to lobby for peace. This committee will also put pressure on the government to find solutions in the battle against HIV/AIDS and work to end to all forms of violence against women and girls.

There would also be the distribution of flyers, posters and copies of the Domestic Violence Act booklet. Finally there would be a musical concert on the campus of the University of Ghana Legon on Nov. 29th. Hiplife musicians, whose music has a message against domestic violence, would be invited to sing. There would be a short presentation on GBV as well as the distribution of flyers.

Quilts in support of Orphans and Vulnerable children
The quilts will be auctioned to raise funds for Absa’s ‘Orphans and Vulnerable Children’ (OVC) flagship program. This money will be used to provide blankets for the child-headed households supported by Absa.
