The Cairo Hearing is a compilation of six testimonies from around the world addressing reproductive health and human rights violations. These were presented at the NGO Forum of the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, Egypt. Testifiers and expert commentators highlighted women's health as a fundamental human right by addressing cases of mass hysterectomies of mentally retarded girls, negligent medical practices resulting in natal death and/or sterilization, and the social and health detriments of adolescent pregnancy and patriarchal marital customs.
